Do you constantly feel exhausted, overwhelmed, and unmotivated at work? If yes, you are experiencing burnout. And don’t worry, you’re not alone. 85% of professionals experience burnout at some point in their careers. I have struggled with burnout in the past and I know how it feels. It sucks. Today I will share the strategies that helped me to regain focus, find balance, get back to enjoying my work, and reclaim my life
Tip #1: Prioritize self-care
The biggest contributor to burnout is neglecting your own needs. The most important person in your life is you. Don’t let anyone make you feel otherwise. When you’re working long hours and under a lot of stress, it is very easy to ignore yourself. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep, eating a healthy diet, and at least 30 min workout. Engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation. For me, it was spending more time with my family. You must find yours.
Tip #2: Set boundaries
Another culprit is being always “on.” If you’re constantly checking your email, responding to messages, and taking work home with you, you’re inviting burn-out into your life. And boy, he will happily come into your life. Setting boundaries is essential for preventing burnout and helping you recharge. I started setting specific times of day to check emails and put my phone in airplane mode after that. I assure you, the sky didn’t fall down because of that.
Tip #3: Practice mindfulness
Practicing mindfulness is a powerful tool for preventing burnout. Be in the present. Remember what Master Oogway said: “Today is a gift. That is why it is called the present. Observe your thoughts and feelings without judgment. You will recognize the signs of burnout before they overpower you. As for me, Yoga helped me tremendously.
